When Rick Pearson was trying to get his life back on track, he did it with paintball. An avid fan of the sport, Rick figured he could use his love of the game to start a tournament, and find a charity that could benefit from some of the ticket sales.
Rick was being turned down, over and over again, by charities that weren’t interested in being associated with paintball tournaments. But off the beaten path is something Helping Families Handle Cancer understands all too well, so when Rick finally discovered our charity, his search came to an end. His friends will happily share that when Rick was able to finally dive into planning Shooting for a Cause – what became Rick’s passion project – he turned over a new leaf and has never looked back.
That was 10 years ago. Now, in 2024, Rick is celebrating a major milestone, marking an amazing financial accomplishment of over $50,000 cumulative dollars raised for Helping Families Handle Cancer. Read more about it through an article by Cochrane Now.
When Rick isn’t planning the upcoming Shooting for a Cause tournament, he works full-time as an Adult Care Worker worker at the Calgary Drop-In Centre, where he has saved many lives.
When Rick reached down to discover what burned bright in his life, it was the desire to help others. We are humbled by Rick’s dedication to moving through the world in a way that purposefully helps people, be it through his volunteerism, or his career. We know Rick is busy planning Shooting for a Cause #11, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2025! Thank you, Rick!
